I just streamed the Subhuman album from Gale Force. Unfortunately, when I went to add the album, manually via MacBook Pro > iTunes, to my External HD, I had an issue with Big Sur and iTunes (nothing due to the Gale Force download itself)… Took me about 3 hours to resolve this nightmare, which prevented me from writing a fully detailed review. However, I wanted to pen and post this, right away, as I was stoked for this surprise (to me, anyway) release.
So while listening to Subhuman, penning this, I was able to resolv the iTunes issue, aka restoring / recreating my 35K track, iTunes Library & insanely custom Playlists – Yes! Indeed, I’m a music fan. After that ordeal, makes me think about how much “Streaming” via Apple Music would be so much easier… while true, I wanted to order their physical CD.
According to www.GaleForceBand.com:
“Gale Force…is a rushing wind of great talent. From the highly creative, master guitarist Tracy G (DIO); to the powerful, groundbreaking and innovative lead vocals of Michael Drive, with multi-talented guitarist, producer and mixer Paul Alfery, and a monster on the bass; Randy Oviedo – this band is like no other. The combination of different writing styles from their different backgrounds has superbly melded together producing an album of songs which sets this group apart. “Subhuman” is a like a new musical life, born in 2021.
First meeting in a Los Angeles restaurant on March 24, 2019. The very first song they wrote together was “Crash & Burn” (even before they were officially a band), and it set a precedent for the rest. The guys collaborated together recording their parts in their studios. Michael wrote his vocal melodies & lyrics and recorded them in his studio, then presented the completed track to the rest of the band. The chemistry between them was obvious. Shortly thereafter, they officially joined together and became the family known as Gale Force. The guys worked hard on the album for the next year and a half, and “Subhuman” was officially complete in its entirety on October 14, 2020; a date which also happens to be Michael Drive’s late father’s birthday. “I wish he could have heard this, he would have been proud” said Michael. One thing was for certain, they had something special – something real to present to the rock world.
“You try to mend your grasp- on what your past inflates, a past you can’t escape. But don’t you let it change your future. Get back up” – ‘Never Say Goodnight’ (from ‘Subhuman’).”

If you join the Gale Force mailing list, you can gain access to an epic bonus track, titled, “The Baron Lives” (Instrumental). Wish I knew about this, Subhuman debut release, sooner, as I missed out on purchasing one of the 200 signed copies that were first come, first served. That said, I purchased the CD anyway which included an email with Mp3 and WAV files of the album. Though I’m all about streaming media, I’ve started collecting vinyl, again. Perhaps, they’ll do an autographed vinyl pre-order of Subhuman? Hint!
As a huge Mike Lee (Michael Drive) / Barren Cross fan from the early days, before Enigma, I am so excited for this release. Believe fellow BC fans as well as those of greats such as DIO, Iron Maiden and similar artists, will thoroughly enjoy this new release.

While the Subhuman album took a few listens to truly get into it, as it does not have the obvious grooves that are found across BC’s Rock for the King, Atomic Arena and State of Control, it didn’t take too long to get hooked on the subtle hooks that can be found deep within the choruses and bridges. As a result of my appetite for Michael Drive’s, powerful, Bruce Dickinson-like vocals and Tracy G’s DIO-like guitar work, I give the Gale Force debut album, 4.5 JoulePeppers, it’s Spicy!
