Jeff Scott Soto: The Duets Collection, Vol. 1 (2021), Frontier Records

JSS leads A-List of Rock Star Singers to accompany him on his musical Journey…

100% Spicy

Synopsis: “Renowned singer Jeff Scott Soto took advantage of the downtime from his normally tireless touring due to the worldwide pandemic and decided to create a very special album that pays tribute to some of the classic songs he has recorded throughout his storied career. But instead of doing simple re-recordings, he wanted to make the album special, unique. So not only did he re-record these songs with his musical friends Jorge Salan, Howie Simon (guitars), Leo Mancini (guitars), Tony Dickinson (bass) and Edu Cominato (drums), but he also brought in some of his fellow rock friends and singers to create a unique DUETS album. With the likes of Erik Martensson (Eclipse, WET), Dino Jelusick (Animal Drive, Dirty Shirley), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), Johnny Gioeli (Hardline), Deen Castronovo (Revolution Saints), Nathan James (Inglorious), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Renan Zonta (Electric Mob), Mats Leven (Candlemass, TSO), BJ (Spektra, SOTO) and Aliro Netto, this is an amazing international affair.”

Review:

Have you listened to Jeff Scott Soto: The Duets Collection, Vol. 1 (2021) before? What did you think about this album, its production, band performance, overall mix, the song selection, guest singers and overall sound?

Anyone who has followed the career of Jeff Scott Soto, or JSS as he’s known by his fans, knows him to be one of the most sensational, rock vocalists in music history. He’s fronted some amazing bands and projects, many of which are reflected on this Duets Collection, Vol. 1.

Here’s a small sampling of JSS’ career: Kanan, Yngwie Malmsteen, Panther, Axel Rudi Pell, Eyes, Talisman, Takara, Humanimal, Human Clay, Kryst The Conqueror, Redlist, The Boogie Knights, Soul SirkUS, Octavision, W.E.T., Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Sons Of Apollo, Joel Hoekstra and even Journey.

As a session musician, Soto also performed backing vocals for artists such as Lita Ford, Steelheart, Glass Tiger, House of Lords, Stryper, & Saigon Kick. He also sang for the fictional band Steel Dragon, which featured Zakk Wylde, Jeff Pilson and Jason Bonham for the soundtrack of the movie Rock Star along with Michael Matijevic of the band Steelheart, whose second album featured Soto on background vocals. Soto performed with Brian May and Roger Taylor as part of the official tribute band Queen Extravaganza.

JSS has also had a robust rock-based solo career and performed harder edged material under the SOTO banner. Unsurprisingly, with all of this talent and a Who’s Who, of A-list of collaborators to call-up, it’s no wonder that Duets Collection, Vol. 1, is a star-studded affair worthy of high praise and notoriety. The only downside to The Duets, is having to wait for Vol. 2
