Review: Pixar delivers, yet again! Have you watched Disney Pixar’s Onward before? Cinemas weren’t closed in Singapore during it’s limited theatrical run, but I decided to watch on Disney+ as I was busy dealing with the recent loss of my grandmother and trying to figure-out if I should return to America or stay in Asia. What did you think about this unique film, its direction, great voice casting, the touching story, fantastic cinematography within its 3D animation setting, the soundtrack and overall deeply emotional themes?

Beyond the cast, animation quality and a really action-packed, adventure set within a wholly unique, mythical universe, all conjured-up for this delightful film was it’s compelling, coming of age narrative. Two young men, brothers, who lost their father at an early age. The older brother (Chris Pratt) had the chance to know their father for a short time, the younger brother (Tom Holland), was just too little to really remember him and has that longing that I too, have. Within this magical, alternate reality – Earth they live in, these brothers have just one chance, to spend just one day with their late father, again. Unfortunately, when that precious time is cut short, as the spell that would give them this once in a lifetime reunion goes awry, they’ll risk life and limb to restore that chance…but time is ticking. On this fast-paced journey, they learn about themselves, each other and their father. It’s truly touching.

Another casualty of COVID-19, beyond all of the lives lost, were some fantastic films that didn’t get their chance to reach mainstream audiences as life itself: religion, fitness, healthcare, education, business… theaters were shuttered by government overreach. All unfortunate losses, on so many levels, however, as it relates to this AppFlicks, Onward is a truly touching story, another amazing tale by Pixar, one that really hit home with me, personally, as I lost my father at the age of 10 and would give almost anything just to have 10 minutes with him, 40 years after his passing.

I look forward to your JoulePepper rating of Onward and I would love to read your comments in the JouleView section, below. Based on the above, I give this film 5 JoulePeppers – it’s Spicy!
