This is one Must SEE (2019) Streaming Series, Season 1 on AppleTV+

96% Spicy

After watching the AppleTV+ original series, Central Park, Defending Jacob, For All Mankind, Home, Little America, The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, Tehran, Tiny World and films The Banker, Fireball, Greyhound, along with Classic Charlie Brown Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year Specials, I finally got around to viewing the Aquaman Heartthrob, Jason Momoa, headlined series, SEE.

My take? “SEE” Season 1, was 8 full hours of MUST WATCH Streaming TV that had me hanging on the edge of my sofa, at the end of each and every hour. Now, I am eagerly awaiting the COVID-19 delayed, Season 2.

While there have been comparisons to Game of Thrones and Lord Of The Rings, SEE is more akin to the Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Post-Apocalyptic type genre in the vein of say, The Planet of The Apes franchise.

Set 200 years into the future, a virus has decimated the planet’s population, leaving the descendants of its 2 million survivors, genetically – blind. The series stars Jason Momoa as Baba Voss, a warrior in a world where tribal Humans fight to survive.  In this dystopian future, eyesight is considered witchcraft, talk of the sighted world is considered myth and natural, unseen occurrences, are considered acts of the gods.

The opening episode, of this suspenseful series, sees Baba Voss, married to a pensive Maghra (Hera Hilmar) on the verge of giving birth, while her husband, the tribe’s top warrior, is preparing the front line, to defend itself from an oncoming army. We learn that Maghra joined the tribe, pregnant with another man’s twins. Set amidst this well directed onslaught, epic in scale, ala the best of Braveheart & Lord of The Rings, Voss‘ tribe temporarily fends off the first wave of attack.

Within these first few sequences of this series, audiences are placed in the middle of this life and death struggle as the menacing, Queen Kane‘s (Sylvia Hoeks), vicious army, led by the ruthless, Witchfinder-General, Tamacti Jun (Christian Camargo), seeks the unborn twins… who we soon discover, at their birth, miraculously possess the ability to “see” by the tribe’s seer, Paris (Alfre Woodard).

This fantastic, edge of your seat, 8 episode streaming adventure series, follows a two decades journey of  leading man, Jason Momoa’s, fight to keep his family safe, in this perilous world, all while being perused by Christian Camargo, within the backdrop of some amazing cinematography (filmed across Canada woodlands) by director Francis Lawrence, in an original story by Steven Knight.

Season 1 was such a thrill. Each episode’s end, left me speechless and its cliffhanger final, leaves me highly anticipating Season 2. The same can be said for all of other AppleTV+ series that I have watched, to date. While Apple was ridiculed by critics, at their November 2019 launch, for their limited programming options, which are now rapidly growing. The result? It would seem that the strategy of Tim Cook (Apple CEO), Matt Cherniss (Head of Domestic Creative Development), Morgan Wandell (Head of International Creative Development) and Michelle Lee (Senior Creative Director), made the correct executive decision to deliver quality programming over quantity, as I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every series, with each one deserving a second season.

Keep you posted, as I will continue to review more AppleTV+ series. I just started watching Home Before Dark and am looking forward to upcoming series Cherry, Foundation, Losing Alice, Palmer and Season 2 of For All Mankind…
