Chris Pratt in The Tomorrow War (2021), on Amazon Prime

Oddly, this film was very quietly dropped onto Prime Video, without any buzz from Amazon? What a shame, because it’s recommended 4th of July viewing…

Review: Actor Chris Pratt, portrays former Green Beret, now high school biology teacher, Dan Forester, a character thrust into a future war to save humanity. On the eve of America’s Fourth of July celebrations, the timing of the release could not be any more perfect for a heroic display of patriotism to risk all to save his future family, then and now.

While the film has great pacing, visual effects and score, there are a few hiccups when it comes to key plot points, that I won’t spoil here. They don’t get in the way of the action, if you aren’t too fussy. I am just being nit-picky as a would-be storyteller, who hasn’t actually worked in Hollywood, but has developed the brand stories and messaging for my share of corporations and politicians.

These speed bumps are accompanied by a few flat or out-of-place scenes that should have been re-edited or re-shot. However, they were likely not redone due to budget, scheduling headaches due to COVID-19 restrictions, etc… When it comes to the Comedic-Action of Pratt, he is an excellent leading man and lead this Sci-Fi Combat film he does, fittingly. The supporting cast is well rounded and certainly add to the enjoyment of the film.

This is neither Battle for Los Angels (2011) nor Starship Troopers (1997), however, I believe most audiences, especially those who are fans of the genre, will find that time spent watching The Tomorrow War, to be worthy of their two-plus hours on the sofa. While I have a massive 85inch UHD TV with 750 watts of sound…I might have felt even more positive about this film, had I watched it in the theater, as I did the two named above. That said, isn’t the age of streaming great? This enjoyable film, was included with my membership to Amazon Prime. So there’s really nothing to nit-pick about, is there?

Have you watched The Tomorrow War (2021) before? What did you think about the film, its direction, cast, the story, cinematography, soundtrack and overall themes?
