Former Journey frontman, supported by a Supergroup of Rockstar musicians…

Wanted to share the new hit single, streaming to you from the hard-rock “supergroup” Bad Penny!

Bad Penny features the all-star lineup of artists which include former Journey lead vocalist Steve Augeri, Queensryche lead vocalist Todd LaTorre, former Queen + Paul Rodgers bassist Danny Miranda, Blue Oyster Cult drummer Jules Radino and guitarist/songwriter Mike Holtzman.

According to the band,  “Lose Myself” – “deeply expresses the acts of true love.”

Based on the interviews I’ve watched and read, Steve Augeri‘s involvement appears to be more of a guest role with Todd LaTorre on the mic as Bad Penny‘s overall frontman. If I am incorrect, please let me know in the comments below.

Correction: Bad Penny is a band, featuring a rotating stool for vocalists with rockstar pipes, to take their turn on the microphone, supported by a superstar backline.

Those unfamiliar with Augeri, he came to fame as the vocalist for bands, Tall Stories and Tyketto, before joining Journey on the Armageddon (1998) Soundtrack with the powerful track “Remember Me” that could only be overshadowed by the monster, breakout hit, “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith. After 9 years as Journey‘s frontman, Steve has been recording, performing with his solo band and is currently working on a new album, Seven Ways Till Sunday. Coming later this year, the new solo album will feature two new tracks, one each, co-written by Journey guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain during Steve’s time with the band.

On a side note, I was contracted by Sony Music via Electronic Artists, back in 1999ish, to promote Steve Augeri’s first album with Journey, Arrival (2000). I did subsequent promotional work with the band, side projects such as Soul SirkUS and a solo tour for JSS… off / on, until 2012ish, spanning vocalists Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto and even Arnel Pineda, for Journey‘s first gig in Singapore. As a fan of the band, since the Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry era, it was a real honor to have been a part of the journey.

Last had the pleasure of catching Augeri perform in Massachusetts, back in 2018. He was gracious when we chatted pre-show and was the consummate showman on the stage, performing a mix of Journey, solo and selected cover material. As I reside in Singapore most of the year, it’s always a treat, when trips back home, coincide with performances of my favorite artists. Hope to catch him again, on tour… one day have him work with guitarist, Chip Ramos, from the band Action that I used to manage. Maybe I’ll reach out to do a one-on-one video interview with Steve for either AppFlicksTV or MarketingKitchenTV YouTube until our AuteurX channel goes live on this Website.

In addition to Augeri’s “Lose Myself” there’s a flip side to the coin. Bad Penny isn’t a one trick pony, they’ve released a pair of songs with Queensryche lead singer, Todd LaTorre on the microphone. The track, “The Mirror Lies” is both vocally and musically a monster, hard-rock anthem. According to the band, who dropped me a note on Facebook, they’ll soon be releasing two new tracks with more surprise vocalists. With strong writing and well orchestrated performance from bassist Danny Miranda, drummer Jules Radino and guitarist Mike Holtzman, I will have my eye out for this band.

As I really enjoy Steve’s vocal on this well-written single, perhaps his strongest performance since the solo releases of “In The Moment” & “Photograph” (2015), I give”Lose Myself” 4.5 of 5 JoulePeppers – it’s…Spicy!

Mike Holtzman

Thanks for the review Ron! Terrific learning about your history with Steve Augeri and Journey. For the record, Todd LaTorre is the full time frontman for Queensryche and just released a brilliant solo album. He did two tracks with Bad Penny that we are enormously proud of. Steve delivered his amazing lead vocals on our latest cut “Lose Myself” and we of course would love to do more with him. We have two new tracks on deck with surprise singers! -Mike Holtzman, Guitarist Bad Penny
