Why Streaming?
In a short amount of time, waves of over twenty-plus, global premium streaming service providers have landed on devices of all shapes and sizes with even more poised to launch in upcoming quarters. While the promise of ubiquitous, on-demand content is appealing to consumers, the rising costs of highly segmented streaming content is causing ripples across an ever-changing and increasingly competitive entertainment industry, seeking loyalty from a scarce and fickle audience.
First movers Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO Max , Peacock & YouTube, who once dominated the market, face stiff competition from recent entries by TikTok, Disney+, Paramount+, Tubi & AppleTV+ who have gained ground within a now overcrowded media pace.
While there was once great incentives to cancel costly Cable and Satellite subscriptions for more compelling streaming options, streaming costs have risen by 40%, as studio profitability is now in question, as online media has eaten into Box Office receipts, lost advertising & physical media revenue, complicated by more costly renegotiated actors & writers contracts to offset traditional payment models, that have all contributed to unwelcome ad vs. premium streaming tiers and exclusive content paywalls for Sporting events.
There’s also the matter of the need for Data, Internet & VPNs as well as, Gaming subscriptions, from the likes of Amazon Luna, Twitch, Apple Arcade, Google Stadia, Nvidia GeForce Now and offerings from Nintendo & PlayStation, Xbox and not to be forgotten, Music Apps for your listening pleasure such as Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify and so many other services.
With recent threats of market consolidation and cannibalization on the horizon, bundled Cable TV & Internet packages are starting to look a lot more appealing, again.
